New Licensing Requirements
Changes are coming in the way that a candidate for a North Carolina real estate license will be tested. Beginning March 1, 2012 the North Carolina Real Estate Commission will be utilizing a national examination.
Since 1984, the commission has written and maintained the state exam which has made it very specific to principles and practices of real estate in North Carolina.
The new exam will not be easier or harder than the old exam but there will be 100 national questions and 40 questions on the state portion. Candidates will initially take the 140 combined questions by computer as is the case currently. The questions, both state and national, will be presented in mixed order. A time allowance has not yet been determined by the commission nor has a pass rate.
It will be important to students as they consider enrolling in a real estate course beginning in January if the school from which they are taking the course is up to speed in terms of offering the new information. More than likely, unless someone is currently enrolled in a real estate course which finishes by the end of the year, he or she will be subject to taking the new exam. At the Fonville Morisey Center our instructors are already hard at work preparing so that they are ready to teach the new information.
As more information becomes available we will keep you updated.
